Proposal: Breadth Topics

Construction Breadth:

Acoustical Breadth:

With new advancements in building information modeling, construction continues to improve efficiency through prefabricating various building components. Until the past ten years, the modeling technology was not advanced enough to properly layout and issue clash detection for the more complex systems such as mechanical, electrical and plumbing. Today, nearly every construction company works with modeling software as the primary mode of communication between architects, engineers, and fabrication facilities. Specifically for duct work, the constructability revolves entirely around the coordination with the sheet metal fabricators where it originates. As a breadth study, this report will compare the methods of prefabrication that can aid in reducing schedule, as well as labor and installation costs.

The redesigned central plant will add rooftop mechanical equipment above occupied spaces. To minimize disruption, it is necessary to analyze the potential equipment noise pollution caused through structural support framing as well as airborne sound waves. To adjust for a rooftop penthouse, new acoustically dampening materials will be studied to address both the structure borne and airborne sounds associated with each unit.
